Android comes with a useful function called – ‘Use of data‘which keeps track of how much mobile data you have used. But the strange thing is that there is no option to clarify that Use of data statistics. So here is a guide on how to clear data usage on Android.
But first, why delete data usage?
Well, there are several reasons to do it. For example, I was on vacation last month and did multiple data refills in a week. However, since the usage statistics add all the bandwidth, there is no easy way to know how much data i used since my last reload.
How to clear data usage on Android!
Well unfortunately, you can erase Use of data only in a ingrained device. But, if your phone is not rooted, then there is a solution for that too. We will get to that later. First, let’s see how to clear data usage if you have root access.
For root users
In case you have a rooted device, things are quite simple and straightforward. Start by opening your file explorer. If you don’t have any, install ES File ExplorerNext go to / data / system / netstats. Under the netstats folder, delete all files and restart your device.
This will erase everything under “data usage”.

For non-root users
If your device is not rooted, you can erase the ‘data usage’ natively. But, it can’t be done right away and instead you have to choose a date that you want to reset the data cycle. Start by turning on your Mobile data first (important), then go to System settings. To do that, open the notification drawer and click on the gear icon. Alternatively, you can also go to the Application Panel and click on the gear icon to open the System Settings.
Once you’re on the Settings page, head over to “Network and Internet”.
When you are on the Network & Internet page, tap “Use of data“.
On the Data usage page, tap “Warning and data limit”. This will open additional settings.
Once you are on the Data Limit & Warning page, tap “Application data usage cycle“.
A usage cycle reset data pop-up will appear. Select today’s data, which in my case is 16. Touch Set.
Now when you visit the data usage page, the system will start data usage from today’s data and the statistics need to be reset. This is a kind of solution to reset data usage.
To have more control over your data usage, I suggest you try this app called my data manager. It allows you to keep track of your data usage. Provides more detailed information on data usage per application and how much bandwidth you spend on a particular day / weeks, etc. You can also set limits and even filter roaming and mobile data usage.
It is surprising to see that this option is still not included in the latest version of Android 9. But these methods would definitely work regardless of the Android device you are using.
