How to Shazam and Find Songs Playing on and Around Snapchat

Snapchat has a ton of innovative features like lenses, filters, bitmojis, games, etc. that make the app fun to use. I recently discovered that you can use Shazam on Snapchat to identify songs that are playing around you and also within Snapchat. Snapchat has integrated Shazam. However, there is no easy way to identify the songs that are playing in the background of others’ Snapchat stories or, in other words, in the app. After some tinkering, I found a way to discover songs that are playing on and around Snapchat. Let’s start.

1. How to Shazam a Song on Snapchat

Snapchat has a native arrangement with Shazam for discovering songs within the app. It is meant to quickly discover the songs playing in the background when you are out and about having fun at a party or club. You can identify the song and put the sticker on your story so people know what song is playing in your story.

To identify the song on Snapchat, just open the Shazam app, long press the empty screen to activate Shazam.

It will take a few seconds for Shazam to search for the song and appear as a card that you can put in your Snapchat Stories. This method works on both the Android and iOS versions of the Snapchat app.

2. How to find a song that plays on Snapchat using Shazam on Snapchat

Discovering songs that sound in your environment is easy. But how do you find a song that plays within a Snapchat story on your friend’s profile? Well, there are ways around that, but Android and iPhone have separate methods for the same thing.

Use Shazam on Snapchat to find songs on iPhone

Thanks to Acquisition of Shazam from Apple, music recognition is now baked into iOS itself. iOS 14 offers a native way to identify songs using Shazam. The feature works amazingly well regardless of the app you’re playing music in.

First, you need to enable Shazam from Control Center in Settings app. Open Settings and scroll down to Control Center. Enable Shazam from the list of options by tapping the plus button next to “Music Recognition”.

Now just open the Story on Snapchat that has the song you want to identify using Shazam. Open Control Center on your iPhone and tap the shazam button. I would listen to the audio on the Snapchat story and present results in notification tone.

Then you can simply tap on the notification to open the song on Apple Music or Spotify.

Use Shazam on Snapchat to search for songs on Android

The method of identifying songs on Android is not as convenient as it is on iPhone. However, Shazam can still identify songs from any application. You need install Shazam app on your Android smartphone to make it work.

After installing Shazam, you will find the option “Shazam from Pop-Up”On the home page. If you don’t see it there, you can look for it in Settings.

It will ask you to allow permissions to draw on apps. This permission would allow Shazam to create a little button that sits at the top of every app and you can shazam any song just by tapping the button.. Enable Shazam from the popup in settings.

After that, you would see a Shazam button floating on the screen. You can press this button to activate the microphone and identify a song.

Just open a Snapchat story that has the music you want to identify and tap the shazam button to start the process. You would get an instant result like a chat bubble and add it to your playlist through the Shazam app.

How do you do Shazam on Snapchat?

These are all the ways to find and identify songs on Snapchat. The built-in method is decent and works most of the time on both Android and iOS. However, the music recognition process to search for songs from other apps is a bit tricky on Android. Shazam on Android uses the actual microphone to pick up the audio from the speaker, resulting in poor recognition. This is not the case with the iPhone, as iOS listens to the audio broadcast by an application through the software and offers more accurate results. What do you think?
