How to adjust a full video on Instagram without cropping

Whether you’re shooting video with your phone’s camera or downloaded a clip from the internet, tons of aspect ratios are in use today. This is also a persistent problem when you shoot a video and post it on Instagram as it is mostly shot in portrait format and Instagram doesn’t like it. So if you are dealing with cropping problems and want to solve them once and for all, here is how to put an entire video on Instagram without cropping.

How to Post Full Size Videos on Instagram

Even if you post frequently on Instagram, you are probably not aware of the default aspect ratio that Instagram accepts. It currently supports any video between 4: 5 to 1.91: 1 aspect ratio with a maximum file size of 4GB. So regular videos will be framed as a square (1: 1), portrait (4: 5), or horizontal (1.91: 1) on your Instagram feed.

1. Video trimming applications

We have discussed the applications before which mainly help you easily trim a video to the desired format. But I recommend using the Vita video editing app.

Vita has a nifty relationship feature that is easy to use. You don’t have to configure anything manually as it provides various templates for cropping your video on the fly. You can trim videos to 1: 1, 4: 5, 16: 9 and others with just one tap. Other than that, you can export video in 1080p without a watermark.

2. Add white border to video

Adding borders to videos and photos has slowly become a cult among Instagram users. It not only makes the feeding more vivid, but also solves the cultivation problems. You can easily add any aspect ratio along with white borders. If it’s still clipping, all you have to do is just increase the size of the edges and you’re done.

There are many ways to add borders to a video, but Canva is the best option. First, it is available on all platforms and second, you can simply drag the frame to create borders. Plus, you can choose the background color, animate the frame, and do much more.

Many users are facing auto video cropping issue with new Instagram update and the issue has been raised in Quora Y Reddit too. You are not facing this problem because you used the wrong aspect ratio, but it is probably a native Instagram problem. If you are facing this problem, especially on Android phone, please proceed to the next points.

3. Post a video from the profile

This solution was mentioned in a Reddit post where users were facing the same problem. Maybe it is for you too.

one. Open Instagram and click on the profile icon in the lower right corner of the screen. Now click on the + sign in the upper right corner and select Feed post from the pop-up menu. That’s it. Now when you publish the clip, you can easily publish it in landscape mode.

4. Post from gallery

The most obvious way to post a video is through the Instagram app. There are two options, you can post it from your feed or from your profile (as discussed in the previous step).

one. Just open your phone gallery and long press on a video to select it. Now select Instagram from the pop-up Share menu and click Feeding. Doing this will open the video in the Instagram app. Just use the expand icon on the left side of the preview post to adjust the aspect ratio.

5. Select multiple videos

If any of the above methods worked for you, skip this one. It worked for me previously, but it seems like it doesn’t work anymore. If you have uploaded a video that is automatically cropped to a 1: 1 ratio, try selecting multiple videos (the one you want to post last). Now use the native stretch tool (two arrows) and landscape the video and deselect other clips that you don’t want to post.

Closing remarks: post the entire video on Instagram

Here are some of the methods that you can use to fix Instagram video clipping problem. Adding a white border to videos gives a cleaner grid look to your feed. On the other hand, if you are facing the auto-cropping issue, sharing your gallery video should work too.
