How to switch Outlook to dark mode on desktop and mobile devices

It’s 2021 and all four major operating systems have dark mode built in. Most of the major third-party apps have also tackled the dark mode train. Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, also have a dark theme. If you are in the habit of browsing Outlook email at night, you need to switch Outlook to dark mode. That’s how.

Switch Outlook to dark mode

Outlook offers native apps for all major platforms, including Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. We will cover all operating systems here. Let us begin.

Outlook for Mac

Microsoft didn’t just add dark mode in the Mac app and called it a day. The company has gone the extra mile to customize the Outlook on Mac experience (you’ll see that in a minute).

one. Open the Outlook application on Mac.

two. Click Outlook on the menu bar and open the preferences menu.

3. Go to the general tab.

Four. Select the dark mode and you can change the accent color from blue to red, green, yellow, etc. too.

You do not need to restart the Outlook for Mac application. You will see your changes instantly in the application.

Outlook for Windows

Microsoft recently redesigned all Office applications in Windows 11. In the screenshots below, we will use the redesigned Outlook Windows application to apply dark mode. This is what to do.

one. Open the Outlook for Windows application.

two. Go to the Archive menu.

3. Navigate to Options> General menu.

Four. In the Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office section, select the Office theme.

5. Please select Black and hit okay in the background.

Interestingly, when we changed the theme of Outlook in Windows, it changed the theme of all Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote.

You can also select a gray theme.

Outlook Web

Outlook dark mode is also available on the Outlook web. Here’s how you can switch Outlook to dark mode on the web.

one. Visit Outlook on the web and sign in with your account credentials.

two. From Outlook web, click the Settings gear icon in the upper right corner.

3. You can enable Dark mode from the side menu.

Users can also change the style of the Outlook theme. Here the option will only apply the wallpaper on top.

Some of them are live wallpapers, including the first blue that bears waves. It looks great and offers a welcome change from a boring Outlook banner at the top.

We have covered Outlook, Windows, Mac, and the web. Now let’s turn our attention to the Outlook mobile apps. Must?

Outlook for iPhone

Microsoft has gone ahead and did a better job with dark mode in the Outlook mobile apps. This is what we mean by that.

one. Go to the Outlook application on iPhone.

two. Tap the Outlook icon at the top and go to Settings.

3. Scroll down to the preferences menu and select Appearance.

Four. You can select Dark theme from the following menu.

You can also change the icon of the app to match the dark theme of the iPhone. The cool thing is that you can change Office themes and play with Pride themes too. Pride themes apply degraded themes to the Outlook app on iPhone. It looks good compared to its rivals.

Outlook Android

It’s the same story in the Outlook for Android app. Follow the steps below to apply the dark theme to the Outlook Android app.

one. Go to Outlook Settings on Android.

two. Scroll down to Appearance.

3. Change Outlook theme to dark mode, apply different accent colors.

Just like on iPhone, you can also apply the Pride theme here.

Change Outlook to Dark Theme

Outlook email app looks beautiful in dark mode. It is also pleasing to the eye. Microsoft has made an even better mobile app deployment with the Pride theme. Follow the steps above and apply the dark theme to Outlook on mobile devices and desktop computers to join the dark side.
