So here is the problem. I run a Youtube Channel (no, that’s not the problem) instead, Google indexes the video thumbnails and links it to my name. So if someone searches for ‘Mrinal Saha’ in Google Image Search, all they see is my YouTube thumbnail, which to be honest is not my best first impression images. Likewise, if you’ve recently discovered some of your unflattering images showing up in Google search, here’s how you can remove them from Google.
According to Google support, you can ask Google directly (filling this form) to remove images that contain sensitive personal information, such as a credit card number, your signature, or nudity without consent. However, most of the time, your images do not fall into these categories. In such situations, you can use the following solution.
How to remove my image from Google
1. Go to Google images and find the image you want to delete. In my case, I search for my name and as you can see it also shows my YouTube thumbnails.
two. The right button of the mouse on the thumbnail of the image you want to remove from Google search and choose Copy link address.
3. Then click this link to go to Remove outdated content Y paste the url in the box next to “Request removal” and click Request removal.
4. You will then see the message “We believe the site owner has not removed the image or web page you are trying to remove.” From here you have two options.
4.1 If the images you want to remove are hosted on their own websites, just update the alt text (in my case I removed my name from the video title, description and tags)
4.2 If the images are uploaded to third party websites, just ask the webmaster to remove the images or update the alt text. To make it more effective, you can talk about how the image was uploaded without your consent and how uncomfortable it makes you. Remember, you always have the option to complete a DMCA complaint, if they do not comply with your request.
Once done, click Yes next to the images has been updated / removed from the source and click next.
Repeat the same steps for all the images you want to remove from Google search. It may take a day or two for Google to take action on your images, so be patient.
In my case, it took 24 hours to delete all the images that I submitted for deletion.
Delete images from Google
Even if you have removed images from Google search, they may still appear on the source website. In my case they were just thumbnails so it doesn’t matter much. But, if it’s sensitive images, it makes sense to double-check all other search engines and social media sites.
