How to go back to the old YouTube layout (2017)

If you are a power user of YouTube, you may have seen this new design a few months, when it was still in beta and available to some select users. However, today YouTube has released a new desktop material design interface for everyone.

The new site is based on Google Polymer Framework to improve performance and reliability. But there are a couple of reasons why you might not like YouTube’s new desktop material design. For example –

  1. Unpleasant aesthetics for the eyes (seems more mobile in design)
  2. The Like / Dislike bar seems to have a high dislike ratio, when the bar is short
  3. Difficult to play videos of a specific video
  4. There is no option to see the viewing statistics (how much view the video has gotten over time) in the video description etc.

So for whatever reason you don’t like the new YouTube layout and want to go back to the old YouTube layout, so here’s how to do it.

Click on your user icon in the upper right corner.
Click on “Restore old YouTube”.
Provide a reason why are you coming back.
Click on “Deliver”.

And that’s it, YouTube will revert to the old layout.

Although it is working well for now, we are not sure how long it will last. If not many people choose not to participate in this new YouTube interface, they will probably force everyone to use a new design, even if you don’t like it.
