Top 7 teleprompter apps for iPad to try in 2020

Whether you’re practicing your presentation or making YouTube videos, having a teleprompter next to your camera can significantly improve the quality of your video production. Now, you can always buy a inexpensive Amazon teleprompter but you would still need a smartphone or tablet to project the text through it. If you have an old iPad lying around, why not use it instead? There are many applications that can turn your iPhone or iPad into a usable teleprompter. Let’s start.

In this article, we will look at all kinds of teleprompter applications that offer different levels of functionality. We would start with a basic application that runs the text on the screen and move on to applications that have additional functions such as mirroring, voice control, remote control, video recording, etc.

The best teleprompter apps for iPad and iPhone

1. Apple Pages: built-in teleprompter for iPad

It is worth noting that the built-in Pages the app on your iPad has a hidden teleprompter mode. Just open your script in the Pages app, tap the Options in the upper right, then select the Presenter mode to start the teleprompter.

It’s not a replacement for a teleprompter, but you can still get it to work by manually moving it around and placing it next to the camera.

2. Parrot Teleprompter: the best simple teleprompter application

Parrot Teleprompter, like the bird that bears its name, allows you to recite the entire script in front of the camera. May mirror, adjust speed and size, and repeat the entire script. You also can change background and font color according to your requirement. The toggle marker is a nice addition as it constantly show your position in the script with a highlight mark on the screen. Parrot also makes its own teleprompter hardware too.

You can even connect your Dropbox account and import your scripts directly into the app. The only limitation of this app is that once the script starts rolling on the screen, you can only control it manually. Honestly, this is a minor inconvenience that can be easily solved with the following app.

3. PromptSmart Lite: the best teleprompter app with voice control

The PromptSmart app has all the basic features of a teleprompter, offers a variety of text customization, has a mirror mode, and the background is camera-friendly. The main feature of this application is VoiceTrack ™. The app would Automatically scroll through the script as you read it aloud in front of a camera, quite innovative right?

I tested it extensively and it works great. Even if you go off script a bit and then catch up on the text on the screen, the app continues as usual. VoiceTrack ™ is built into the app and you don’t need an internet connection to use it. The app is free to use, but if you want a truly seamless experience, shell out $ 20 and get Pro version, you will thank me later.

4. OnCue Teleprompter – Best Remote Control Teleprompter App

Using a voice-controlled teleprompter app is great, but if your video producer requires more control over your shots then you should give the OnCue Teleprompter app a shot. It takes a more traditional approach and offers a remote control function to control moving text on the screen. You will need two devices for this to work and run one device as a server and the other as a client. This will give the server application full control of how the text appears on the client screen.

Apart from that, the app includes a Rich Text Editor, a option acchange fonts, adjust text size. You can add cues of emotion by changing the color of individual words, adding depth to the script. The OnCue Teleprompter app is free on the App Store.

5. QuotTeleprompter – a better remote control teleprompter app

The OnCue Teleprompter has its own set of features that make it attractive, but the remote control interface was not very intuitive. QuotTeleprompter takes the concept and refines it, you get a much better remote control interface where you can control the iPad from another iOS device. The connection process is one-touch and virtually hassle-free.

The app is free to try and the full version is locked behind a $ 5 paywall which is well worth considering the amount of time it will save you between takes.

6. Teleprompter Premium – Control teleprompter with Bluetooth controller

The old app worked great and you could control the teleprompter with an iPhone, but what if you don’t have one? Well, there is Teleprompter Premium, which is a refined teleprompter app that allows you to control the iPad app with a game controller, a Bluetooth keyboard, and even from a web browser. You can import your scripts from the Files app, which can be a Word document, PDF, PowerPoint, text, etc. Other than that it has all the standard features that you would expect from a teleprompter app, like reflected text, adjustable text speed and size, benchmark, etc.

The reason I recommend this app is that you, the presenter, are in full control of the script and can quickly jump to the previous section with just one tap of the remote of your choice. I usually use Sony’s DUAL SHOCK 4 to control the dash and it works perfectly. The app is available for free, but you will need to pay $ 14.99 to unlock some premium features such as exporting RTF files, automatic captions, etc.

7. Video teleprompter lite: record professional videos on iPad

Video Teleprompter lite is a more advanced version of a teleprompter application with additional functions. You can import your scripts from your phone or cloud or even from other applications. Once you choose your file and hit Next, you will get a prompt from the app to allow the camera. Yes, this application allows you to record the video on the iPad with a teleprompter running directly on the screen. You can see your preview with the pointer, which makes it easy to record your session.

One of the best features of this app that disappeared in most teleprompter apps is the adjustable text area. While recording a video, you can bring your script closer to the camera so that your eyes look directly into the lens while recording.

Another useful feature of this app is that you can use a bluetooth keyboard or your apple watch to control speed and recording without touching the iPad. You get an app on the watch that pairs with the app during a session and instantly reacts to your commands. You can tap on the Bluetooth icon in the lower left, next to the gear icon. However, this feature is only available in the premium version. Your saved recordings are automatically saved to Photos and you can share them from there.

These are the features of the premium version that offers different formats and colors for the script, keyboard control, you can import the scripts directly and remove the watermark.

Video Teleprompter lite is great, but the text covers the entire screen and can be a bit distracting, and the following app has a creative solution to this problem.

8. Rhetoric: the best teleprompter app for little creators

The rhetorical app takes the wheel and reinvents it. Instead of a traditional teleprompter app where you get a wall of text, this app breaks the whole process into four main parts; editing, directing, filming and observation. You start by importing a script into the application, then the application automatically breaks the entire script down into individual lines. Once you have the lines, you can assign time and emotion to each dialogue, which would ensure you have visual cues to guide you through the scene.

You can use any of the iPad cameras to record the video, the app displays a countdown for each dialog. Once you’ve recorded your shots, look at them and determine what to keep and what to discard. This application is useful for small creators who want a complete tool for recording videos with a built-in teleprompter. Rhetoric is free on the App Store and you can unlock all features for just $ 2.

Consider buying a real teleprompter

I’m pretty sure the apps mentioned above are decent enough to act as a makeshift Teleprompter. A real teleprompter would make a significant difference as it is professionally built and can look directly into the camera while reading your lines. There are many inexpensive teleprompters and Amazon would be your first step in starting your search.

We use the Sliding gear TMP100 for the Techwiser YouTube channel. It is lightweight and compatible with most camera setups. The glass is a standard 70/30 beam split glass which ensures that the camera does not record any of the text. And the best part is, no assembly required. Just take it out of the bag that comes with it, mount it on the tripod, and you’re done. The whole process takes less than 5 minutes. It doesn’t have its own screen and you can use any smartphone or iPad to act as a display (up to 10.5 inches). You can get it for $ 200.

What are the best teleprompter apps for iPad?

Personally, I prefer Parrot as a standalone teleprompter app for iPad because it has all the essential features of a teleprompter like mirroring, speed, and text wrapping. However, Prompster and Teleprompter Pro Lite get the job done too. For a Video Teleprompter application, Promptsmart Lite works very well. Which application did you like the most and how well written did the videos do?
